Professional Development Workshops
The Institute offers a wide range of on-site and off-site professional development workshops that are tailored to each school’s needs. Typically a teaching artist will visit the classroom for a number of sessions (determined by the schools needs) and deliver arts integrated lessons which support the classroom teacher’s lessons.
A “mini-residency” will usually provide a series of 10 lessons, each lesson about 90 minutes in length. The artist works in tandem with the teacher and follows his/her course of lesson plans. This program works across the core curriculum: math, science, English language arts, etc.
The workshops are tailored to meet each school’s needs and can make adjustments accordingly:
- Subject matter
- Grade level
- Curriculum requirements
Teaching artists are professional artists who meet with the teacher in advance to discuss the teacher’s needs. We work with teaching artists of various disciplines: music, art, dance and drama. Every teaching artist has gone through arts infused training and has extensive experience working with K-12 schools.
